Fairview Gardens, Santa Barbara Mesa

Peter Gaede

Lots of barnyard grass present in several rows at Fairview Gardens towards the back. Robb Hamilton and I visited the farm briefly yesterday afternoon. Nothing rare. A Chipping Sparrow and a couple of Lazuli Buntings were best. 90+ mannikins and loads of goldfinches also present.

La Mesa Park has birds, and will be worth checking in the next few weeks, but nothing unusual yesterday. Two Western Tanagers, 5 Yellow Warblers, and 2 Wilson's in the Eucs, and a Willow Flycatcher was along the creek, seen from the bridge.

A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was in a yard at 935 Fellowship Road today, along with 7 Wilson's Warblers. The grosbeak was a first-year male, with streaking across the breast and a hint of red at the bend of each wing.
