The Summer Tanager continues in the oak woodland west of the main Museum buildings, today joined by Western Tanager and many other usual suspects. There are a few of the soft variety Hachiya persimmons clinging to the tree in front of the Eyes in the Sky aviary--Nuttall's Woodpecker, Yellow-rumps, Orange-crowned Warbler, Ruby Crowned Kinglet, Purple and House finches, and the tanagers all feasting on the super-ripe fruits. The Museum has unfortunately had to remove the dead Redwood snag at the end of the parking lot, which had a pretty good acorn granary and a lot of woodpecker activity. I was sorry to see it go.
