Chestnut-sided Warbler at Nojoqui

Rebecca Coulter

This morning while leading a group for the SYV Natural History Society, I found a Chestnut-sided Warbler in the sycamores along the northeastern boundary of the park., near the restroom. Yellow-green above, light chestnut wash along the sides, white wing bars and white eye ring. Very actively foraging among the sycamores on both sides of the creek. Birding was somewhat slow in the intermittent drizzle, but the expected migrants were present in small numbers. Of note were at least two Mountain Bluebirds in the field to the east of the park, a single calling Red-breasted Nuthatch, and three high-flyover White-tailed Kites heading northwest.
