Red-naped Sapsucker (Sphyrapicus nuchalis) (1) CONFIRMED

- Comments: "Adult. Generally black with extensive white markings down the back. Black wings with broad white slash along folded wing. Underside white and black mottling. Boldly patterned black, white and red head: Incomplete black border around red throat. Bright red crown and throat, slightly paler red nape. Forgot to note chin color to help sex bird (d’oh! Sapsuckers). Did not vocalize but occasionally heard softly tapping. In main lower campground along western part of loop. "

- Comments: "Two were seen and photographed on opposite corners of the lagoon. The first was at the lawn just north of the Marine Operations Facility. The second was found later by the trail intersection southeast of Manzanita Village where the north-south facing arm of the lagoon almost reaches the ocean. Photos soon."
