Red Crossbills at NCOS

Mark Holmgren

A surprise this morning was seven Red Crossbills calling, flying over on the eastern side of North Campus Open Space. Otherwise, 2 Greater White-fronted Geese hung with the Canada Geese. A Tropical Kingbird was calling furiously as it jousted with another kingbird. That TK is completing its tail molt and shows the outer 2 tail feathers shorter on both sides. A calling TK also with 2 outer tail feathers incoming is now at the Dune Pond 2 hours later. Possibly the same individual.
