In recent springs, it was very evident that migrant warblers and vireos in Refugio Canyon fed heavily in oaks that had lots of catkins. This year there are no catkins and a massive reduction in migrant birds. Do oak trees elsewhere along the coast have catkins this spring? I am trying to understand if this is due to the fire in Refugio or a more general effect of the drought.
