I was paying attention to the thrush not the plants) on the east side of the trail. Coordinates: (34.0480175, -119.5655457). Ovenbird and hermit thrushes were foraging around here as well. Larger than nearby hermit thrush, with bright brick/rufous upperparts, streaky black and white auriculars and malar bordered by black lateral throat stripes. Throat white. Bright, broad white crescents above and below the eye, joined to create the appearance of an eyering “pinched” proximally and anteriorly. Breast densely spotted with more-or-less circular black spots contrasting with a bright white background coloration that extended all the way into the under tail coverts. The bird never vocalized, but provided good looks and photo opportunities. We studied the bird for 10 minutes before it went deeper into the brush. Absolutely awesome bird! We are Hyped on Hylocichla"

While we never saw the bird, we heard its clear whistled song three times, coming from the eucalyptus trees across the road from the upper huge prickly pear cactus patch, approximately here: (34.468267,-119.921717). Although we did not get a recording, we immediately compared what we heard to Merlin recordings and all agreed that it matched."
