Mist netting and banding at Pino Alto Picnic Area (Figueroa Mtn.) this morning I caught an adult Northern pigmy owl (great little bird). Couldn't tell gender. Interestingly enough about 2 weeks ago I also caught 2 Northern pigmy owls in the mist nets at Sedgwick Reserve. Those two I'm fairly certain were male and female, although there were no brood patches or cloacal protuberances, but they had youngsters in the vicinity which were quite verbal after releasing the adults.
