Dave Compton and I found a female Painted Bunting around 5:30 Tuesday afternoon on Atascadero Creek. The bird ranged from about 100 to 250 meters upcreek from the small check dam which is near the end of Ward Drive. You could also access the area by parking where South Patterson Avenue crosses the bike path and Atascadero Creek, and walking down the creek or along the bike path west to the dam. We also had a White-winged Dove in the eucalyptus trees south of the creek at the dam, and several Blue Grosbeaks and Lazuli Buntings along the creek.
