At 7:15 am on 31 Aug 1999, I heard 1 or 2 Mtn Chickadees on Kinevan Rd. This
was at the lower end of Kinevan Rd between hwy 154 and the junction of Kinevan
and W Camino Cielo Rd.
I was not able to detect Cassin's Vireos there for my visiting friends.
BUT, I heard for the second time in three days a warbler singing that I am
even more sure was a MacGillivray Warbler. I do hope someone can check this out
and get a visual on it. I could not, even though it was only 10 meters south of
the road. The bird sings from a madrone and oak hillside; the spot is about 100
meters downstream from the bridge at the entrance to Kinevan Ranch.
Some of you might not be aware that there is a history of
MacGillivray’s Warbler nesting and summertime occupancy in this section of
upper San Jose Creek dating back to 1985. However, I am not aware of any
records since 1995. This is the only confirmed nesting site in Santa Barbara
Co.
