Hi Folks,
On 3 May, Oscar Johnson, Dave Compton, and I did a Santa Barbara County Big Day. In the sometimes howling wind we came up with 175 species in 17 hours, 35 min and 322 miles driving. This is the best big day count for any of us. Although we were 15 species shy of the fantastic count of Gaede, Storrer, and Ranson a week earlier, we were pretty happy with our adventure. Several spots were truly unbirdable and others we had to omit from our itinerary. At Devereux the wind speed was 24 mph. My companions were great fun. Here's how it happened.
