Regarding overwintering birds:
For 11 years, a red-breasted sapsucker showed up in our yard every
November. It would stay 2-3 weeks, dividing its time between the gingko
tree and the black walnut.

yard today. I know they are three different birds, first one a first
winter with no supraloral, second one an adult with bright
