An juvenile Black-throated sparrow was in a weedy ditch along Highway 33 this afternoon, .5 miles south of Ballinger Canyon Road. They are currently cutting alfalfa here on the east side of the highway, so it’s a good place to stop and have a look if you’re traveling through. Large flocks of starlings, blackbirds, ravens, etc. The sparrow flew across the road into a massive patch of carrots. These carrot fields are almost to bird. An Osprey carrying a fish was a few miles down the road from here, near the intersection with Quatal Canyon Road.
